In machining, tools rotate in tool holders or slide out when clamping doesn’t create enough friction. However, excessive clamping force may cause deformation, reducing component lifespan. The ABS coupling method addresses this issue by using a cross-pin that passes through the tool holder, with tapered ends that lock securely. The ABS coupling system generate higher force transmission, with lower noise, shorter overhang length. The locking bolts with stepped shape and two contact sections ensure higher clamping force and precision. This means a higher efficient force transmission. This design prevents both rotational and axial movement, ensuring a stable and reliable hold.

The clamping mechanism of the ABS system is similar to that of the WELDON tool holder. However, the key difference is a sliding pin that moves radially across the ABS tool holder shank and presses against the taper screw, creating an axial clamping force. This design enables secure clamping of tools with cylindrical shanks and lateral clamping surfaces, preventing twisting and pull-out.

ABS modular tool-holding system is developed into two main styles, ABS N and ABS T, which differ in slot style, and ABS E1 and E2, which differ in coolant configurations.
